Be part of our story

As we prepare to mark £5 billion spent on grassroots sport, we want to hear from you

13th May 2015

The statistic is impressive and we're proud to have worked with our partners to make more and more sporting habits for life.

A big thanks to you

But we want to tell the countless stories behind the milestone. And that's where you come in. From June we'll be Tweeting, emailing, Facebooking and talking to the press about all the great stuff you've helped us create.

We want to say thank you – to you – for being part of our story. And we need your help to do it.

It doesn't matter if you're sporty or non-sporty, or whether you've done something as an individual or with a club. Get in touch via email or social media and tell us if we've made a difference.

Be part of it

Did we inspire you to take up something new, or get active just that little bit more? Have we helped reinvigorate your local swimming pool or tennis court? Or perhaps you've worked with us to create some fantastic projects in your local area. Whatever your experiences, get in touch and be one of our #fivebillionstories. Join the celebration. Mark the milestone.

Some great examples of your #fivebillionstories:

  • Karl Read used our funding to create a mobile gym – enabling people in rural communities to access fitness facilities
  • A boxing gym was created in a Sheffield Mosque using one of our awards - bringing sport to the people in their daily lives
  • We funded a new cricket pavillion at a local village, enabling a senior and youth team to play regularly

Back to the 90s...

Our £5bn funding story begins back in 1994 with the first-ever National Lottery game in November of the same year. Take a look here to see what else was going on that year...
