Chris Boardman speaks to a camera mounted on his bike as he cycles on a path alongside a river.
He says: "That over there is the River Dee. When I was little, I regularly used to swim in that with the family. Well, a bit further up the road, just outside Chester. A couple of miles that way.
"Now, though, I'd be hesitant to get in because of the risk of getting sick and that's incredibly sad, especially for my kids and grandkids, who are going to inherit this legacy.
"The heavy rain, had some this morning, that routinely overwhelms our infrastructure, is just part of how climate change is affecting us and our ability to get active and exercise. You can't play footy on a waterlogged pitch. You can't ride all day in 40 degrees heat. You can't even volunteer at a sports event if you can't get there because of flooding.
"So we've got to do something about it and quickly. So I thought I'd help put a topical spotlight on it and give organisations, big and small, that we work with a tangible way to do something about it.
"On the 16th of July, I and a gaggle of friends are going to be making the most ecologically friendly journey possible to Paris and the Olympics. It's an eight-day, 550-mile journey, seeing some really good and innovative stuff that's already happening along the way."
As he says these words, a map graphic, showing the route and stopping points for the ride between Manchester and Paris, is shown on screen for a few seconds.
Chris continues: "And as we run up to the Games, some of it on the BBC, I'll be doing stuff daily so you can follow along if you want. We going to gather pledges – Going for Green pledges – from organisations that we work with. If you want to see what that's about, the link's somewhere here on in the bio."
As he says these words, a graphic enters from left to right across the bottom of the screen, featuring the Pedal for Paris logo and the words 'Sign the Going for Green pledge, PedalForParis.org'; it is displayed for a few seconds.
Chris continues: "Essentially, we want to make sure that in the future, kids and their kids can swim in that river and play footy on a Thursday night. And I think that's something worth fighting for. If you do too, come along on the journey and see what's going on and sign the pledge.
"Right, I'd better go and do some training. I will see you on the road."
The video ends with a full-screen version of the previous graphic, repeating the words 'Sign the Going for Green pledge, PedalForParis.org'.
